21 years after the start of “South Tyrol Today”, the cross-border regional ORF news magazine is taking another forward-looking step in the Tyrolean and South Tyrolean media landscape. In March 2021, we will move into a new location with a moderation studio. Editing and technology move to Siemensstrasse 19 in Bolzano.
“Südtirol heute” has been broadcast by the ORF regional studio Tyrol in Innsbruck since May 2nd, 2000. Now there is an innovation in the technology of shipment processing. In addition to the editorial office, the new location has a state-of-the-art studio. From Monday, March 22nd, the moderation in Bolzano will also take place.
From Monday to Friday at 6.30 p.m. on ORF 2
The news magazine “Südtirol heute”, which was able to establish itself as a successful model right after it was launched more than 20 years ago, goes on air from Monday to Friday at 6.30 pm in the ORF 2 program in South, North and East Tyrol. The average transmission length is 22 minutes. In the broadcasting area of South Tyrol, a repetition will be broadcast on ORF 1 at 7.30 p.m.
According to a market survey by the South Tyrolean State Institute for Statistics, “Südtirol heute” with its two editions in South Tyrol reaches a daily number of viewers of 96,000 and is thus in the top field. In the state of Tyrol, the market share averages 25 percent and a range of 50,000 viewers.
Reporting extended to Trentino
In 2019 the reporting was extended to the Trentino. The media importance of “South Tyrol today” in the European region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino has thus been reinforced by a further component.
In addition to five current issues per week, the editorial team in Bolzano produces the 24-minute program “Pictures from South Tyrol” once a week for 3sat, broadcast on Saturday at 9.35 am.
Productions also for national reporting
The location in South Tyrol also supplies ORF’s national information programs, such as “Zeit im Bild”, and designs contributions from South Tyrol for ORF- “Tirol heute”, Radio Tirol and tirol.ORF.at.
“Südtirol heute” is registering growing access numbers in the ORF-TVthek. In addition, with “Südtirol heute Kompakt”, a short format of its own is also being produced for social media.
Wrabetz: Information about South Tyrol fit for the 21st century
ORF General Director Alexander Wrabetz: “With the new multimedia studio in Bolzano, information about South Tyrol on ORF will be fit for the 21st century. Information about, from and for South Tyrol is an essential pillar of regional information on ORF.”
ORF country director Robert Unterweger: “‘South Tyrol today’ is the most visible project of the European region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino for the general public. The ORF literally looks across the borders day after day. With the additional reporting from Trentino there is a European perspective that is trend-setting for the media landscape. “
“Successful technical feat”
Siegfried Giuliani, editor-in-chief of “Südtirol heute” spoke of a technical feat that was structurally and technically brilliant: “The new location offers the editorial team a highly professional environment for contemporary tri-media work. The merging of the studio moderation with the editorial department saves time and money and thus increases the capacities for the production of daily programs. An important milestone for the future has been set with the new studio. ”
