Spacebase Startopia: 6 tips for simulation beginners

The simulation game “Spacebase Startopia” was released this Friday, in which it is your task to take control of a donut-shaped space station. From now on you have to make sure that your crew feels as comfortable as possible in their galactic home and that they fulfill their wishes and longings. As is typical for the genre, your options are quite extensive and complex. So that you can get started with the game as easily as possible, we have put together a few tips for you below.

Tip # 1: Play the introductions and tutorials

In the single player main menu you can select specific tutorials before the campaign starts, which you should do. Follow them as carefully as possible, because in these sections the game will already tell you how some of its concepts will later interlock. Even if you are already familiar with games of this type, we advise you to take the tutorials seriously in order to learn how this particular game really works.

Tip # 2: Prioritize your pending tasks

After a relatively short time you will find yourself confronted with a multitude of tasks in “Spacebase Startopia”, which all of you want to tackle. You have to build new rooms, maintain them, furnish them and of course also satisfy the needs of your crew and assign them their tasks. You have to prioritize accordingly.

A little help gives you a display at the top right of the screen, because the more urgent tasks are displayed there. Therefore, it is better not to dwell on any little things, but instead concentrate on the most important aspects of your job. So focus on one task and then move on to the next. Don’t let things that are unimportant in comparison stop you.

Tip # 3: You can’t do everything

This also directly results in our third tip, because even if you would like to, you can hardly really take care of everything that arises. You can’t do everything and you can’t meet all the needs of your crew, which is why some things will inevitably fall by the wayside. It is of course annoying to have dissatisfied parts of the crew, but especially at the beginning of the game you should really only care about your mission and much less about what your crew thinks of you. So don’t bother trying to make every inch of your base absolutely perfect.

Tip # 4: use blueprints

If you look around a bit in the construction menu of “Spacebase Startopia”, you will notice that there are all sorts of different options available to you to build your dream station. You have the choice between two basic options: Either you build something manually or you use blueprints.

For the first few hours of play, we advise you to do the latter. Blueprints save you a lot of time, which you can easily spend on other tasks. In this case you just have to decide where something should be built and that will be done. In this way, you can also familiarize yourself better with the other facets of your “workplace”.

Tip no. 5: Pay attention to the occupancy

For everything that you build in “Spacebase Startopia”, the game shows you a small infographic (“square” button) in which, among other things, the occupancy rate can be seen. This tells you how full, or in the worst case overcrowded, a room is. As long as the utilization is at a maximum of around 50%, you do not have to expand the area or set up a second version elsewhere. However, as soon as long queues form in front of these areas and the load increases accordingly, you should act, so keep an eye on the display.

Tip no. 6: Hire as many assistants as possible

By now you should have noticed that there are really all kinds of tasks waiting for you. Fortunately, the game gives you the opportunity to recruit workers to support you in some things. With regard to the positions to be filled, make sure that, ideally, you always have more assistants than positions to be filled. Your busy bees are known to have their own needs and have to do annoying things like eat or sleep. So that the productivity of the stations does not suffer as a result, you should always have a few workers on hand. So it is better to use seven or eight assistants for four free places in a station.

Even if it may seem like that at first, your real goal in “Spacebase Startopia” is not the micromanagement of your station. So you shouldn’t really worry about every little thing yourself, no matter how insignificant. Instead, work towards ensuring that your space station runs almost by itself and that you only have to intervene if something threatens to get out of hand. Therefore, consider each small task as a stage in order to ultimately achieve your true goal.
