16 years ago Johannes Artmayr took over the insolvent natural stone company Strasser Steine in the Rohrbach district. Today the company has 250 employees and in the meantime sales have almost quadrupled to almost 38 million euros. This week the go-ahead was given for the expansion of production and the construction of the Stoneum competence and adventure world. Strasser Steine is investing a total of 23 million euros. Construction should be finished in 2023.
Artmayr has turned a partly interchangeable product into a brand. Strasser now generates 90 percent of its sales with stones for luxury kitchens across Europe. With showrooms in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg and Mallorca, Strasser’s kitchen countertops and kitchen elements made of natural stone are setting the tone in Europe. Deliveries are made to top restaurants and wealthy private customers who don’t shy away from a six-figure price for a kitchen.
With the expansion of production (“We are working at the limit of capacity”) and the construction of the Stoneum, Artmayr wants to take another step in the positioning of Strasser Steine. “We went from a stonemason to a manufacturer of a branded product. St. Martin is now becoming the Mecca of natural stones.” The Stoneum, which was planned by the X Architects and whose outer skin is to consist of Austrian granite, will be a futuristic building that was modeled on the one hand like a Mühlviertel boulder and on the other hand from a sharp-edged basic shape of a diamond. It will be an adventure world, training center, event room and lab for the employees alike. The central element will of course be a natural stone kitchen, the Chef’s Table, which will serve as a location for exclusive cooking events.
The passionate marketing man Artmayr has dedicated himself entirely to granite. He is the initiator of the granite pilgrimage through the western Mühlviertel, which of course leads over the Strasser company premises. He works internationally with top chefs like Johann Lafer.
Artmayr runs the company with his CFO Harald Wohlschlager and the marketing and sales specialist Georg Rieger, who worked at DAN Küchen. Artmayr’s 32-year-old son Christoph, who has earned his spurs at Deloitte and Red Bull, has also been with the company since the beginning of the year. (dm)
