The first Schlotterbeck for Germany, U21 | European Championship – SWR – Regional

Schlotterbeck has experience

As a Bundesliga and U21 experienced player, the native Waiblinger (Stuttgart region) strengthens and stabilizes the defensive chain of the EM squad. The left-footed player acts calmly and confidently and convinces with a sovereign one-on-one lead – in his last Bundesliga game on March 20, 2021 between 1. FC Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt, the central defender won 16 of 24 tackles for himself. With a rate of 66.67 percent, he was the most successful on the pitch.

Dangerous for goals and a strong header

Nico Schlotterbeck has already scored three goals for the U21s. He scored the first of these on 10.10.2019 against the Spanish U21s and was rewarded twice: in addition to his equalization to 1: 1 and Schlotterbeck was voted “Man of the Match”.

His history of goals away from the national team testifies to the danger of goals, especially in set pieces. It was not uncommon for the ball to land in goal after a header. The qualities of the 21-year-old Swabian show that he is in good hands in the U21 European Championship squad.

“Already a legend” on the console

He can also use his qualities in eSports. This was demonstrated by his participation in the “Bundesliga Home Challenge” almost a year ago: 29 Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga clubs used the football-free time to compete on the console. Nico Schlotterbeck made the game with the highest number of goals: 11-1 he beat Maximilian Mittelst├Ądt, Hertha BSC’s left-back.

As part of the eNational team in the FIFA eNations Cup of the German Football Association (DFB), Schlotterbeck showed his talent: It was Schlotterbeck who made it into the quarter-finals. After the Hamburg eNational player Umut G├╝ltekin had lost 3-1 in the first group game, Schlotterbeck prevented an opening defeat with two individual wins. In the second group game, Schlotterbeck defeated Austria 8-1, helping Germany to take first place in the group.

With the beginning of the corona pandemic, he was also active in eSports – and at least as successful as in real football. Benedikt Saltzer, coach of the eNational team, commented on the German matches in the FIFA eNations Cup on his Twitch channel and praised Schlotterbeck for “a terrific performance” and great variability that made it difficult for other footballers to beat him.

Perhaps the youngest Schlotterbeck will again have a significant share in the quarter-finals at the EM. The prerequisites for this are definitely given.
