Windows is working on a more modern and consistent look. The Insider Preview contains new icons for the file manager.

The yellow order symbols could soon be history. Windows is working on a new design for the file manager. Windows announced that testers of the “Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21343” can already see the update.

Konsistenter Look

The folder and standard file icons are realigned. This should ensure more consistency within Microsoft products.

The new design of the icons for desktop, documents, downloads and images should make the areas distinguishable at a glance. The recycle bin also looks different than before. More symbols should follow over time.

Part of a comprehensive redesign

Microsoft has already released a palette of icons for applications as well. Just recently Microsoft presented a new start menu. The redesign is part of a long-term strategy.

With the preview update, Microsoft has also improved Windows Sandbox and the Microsoft Defense application Guard and fixed some bugs. A detailed list of the changes can be found here.
