Viktorija Golubic’s winning streak at the WTA tournament in Lyon never ends. The girl from Zurich, who successfully played her way through the qualification, is in the semi-finals after a 6: 3, 7: 6 over Greet Minnen from Belgium. There she meets the French Fiona Ferro on Saturday.
Won the tie-break 7-0
Golubic (WTA 130) started against Minnen (WTA 113) like the fire brigade and was 4-0 in the front after just 16 minutes. Although Minnen subsequently came up to 3: 4, Golubic could not take the starting set.
In the second round, the Swiss Fedcup player was behind with a break when Minnen was able to serve to equalize the set at 5: 4. But Golubic made it 5: 5 and found himself in the tiebreak a little later. This was then as one-sided as a tiebreak can only run: Golubic won it 7-0.
Will it work on the 3rd attempt?
In her first WTA semi-final in one and a half years (Guangzhou in September 2019), Golubic has to deal with Ferro, the world number 46, for the third time in her career. The Swiss has lost the two previous direct duels.
