Austria’s U-21 national soccer team is determined to qualify for the 2023 European championship. This should succeed in a group with Croatia, Norway, Finland, Azerbaijan and Estonia.
The qualifying round starts in June, all three home games this year will be played by the Austrian national team in the Josko-Arena in Ried. Since more than 3,000 fans came to a U-21 game between Austria and Kosovo in Ried in November 2019, the Austrian Football Association has been more than impressed by the location in the Innviertel. “We feel very much at home as a team in Ried. The people in charge of the club give us the feeling that they are incredibly proud to be able to host the home games of the U-21s. There is an extremely positive energy from the club and the surrounding area,” says U -21 team boss Werner Gregoritsch. The whole region is “football crazy” in a positive sense, says Gregoritsch.
“Ried becomes good soil”
SV-Guntamatic-Ried managing director Rainer Wöllinger is very happy. “We are proud that the Josko Arena continues to be the home of the U-21 national team. The football-loving Innviertel will certainly be a good ground for a successful path to the 2023 European Championship,” says Wöllinger, who hopes that by the start of the Qualifying matches again fans are allowed in the stadiums.
The U-21 national team will complete a course in Spain by March 30th. There are two friendlies against Saudi Arabia (March 27th) and Poland (March 29th) on the program.
