Vaccination certificates for Switzerland should be available by summer

The internationally recognized Covid-19 certificate will come by the summer. The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) could not give a more precise time on Tuesday.

Switzerland wants to comply with the requirements of the EU in order to guarantee international recognition of the vaccination certificate. Basically there should be proof of vaccination as soon as possible. “We are working flat out to ensure that this Covid-19 certificate is available by the summer,” said Patrick Mathys, Head of the Crisis Management and International Cooperation Section at the BAG, in front of the media in Bern.

The BAG is currently examining various technical solutions that are best feasible for Switzerland and that would at the same time be internationally accepted.

But there will be no EU solution that Switzerland will join. The EU will make specifications that have to be implemented at the state level. “We will do this too,” said Nassima Mehira, co-project manager for the Covid-19 certificate at the BAG. In this way, Switzerland could guarantee international recognition. (sda / npa)
