Vaccine: Moderna plans plant in Germany – economy

The US pharmaceutical company Moderna wants to build a vaccine plant in Germany.

The new production facility should go into operation in two years, reported the “FAZ”. Details are still unclear. The plant is to be built in eastern Germany, a specific federal state is not yet known.

Initially, no comment was received from the company that manufactures one of the four Covid-19 vaccines approved in the EU. The Ministry of Economics in Berlin did not want to comment on the report.

Modern has – like the Mainz company Biontech – a corona vaccine based on the new mRNA-Technologie developed by which for immunization against the novel Coronavirus two cans are required.

The Moderna vaccine has been approved for adults in the EU since January 6th. In the USA, an emergency license was granted back in December. Vaccinating children under the age of 16 with the corona vaccines previously approved in the United States is not allowed. Moderna is currently testing the effectiveness and tolerability of its corona vaccine in children with a series of tests on children under the age of twelve in the USA and Canada.
