The Italian conductor Giacomo Sagripanti takes over the musical direction. “It is my greatest honor to make my house debut with a premiere production of such a masterpiece as ‘Traviata’. My goal is to shed light on the bel canto side of this work, which along with ‘Rigoletto’ and ‘Trovatore’ as the ‘final bel canto chapter’ of opera history can be viewed, “he said.
The play is directed by Simon Stone. “I never try to find out what this play was once – I just try to find out what this play means now for our society,” explained the Australian-Swiss director. The performance is a co-production with the Opéra national de Paris, where it was performed last season.
