The situation in Switzerland is tense: some opponents of the measures are becoming increasingly radicalized. In online chats, splinter groups call for violence, the attacks are increasing. The Federal Office of Police (Fedpol) is watching the development with concern, as the SonntagsBlick made public.
Cell phone masts are often targeted by some skeptics. Because a conspiracy theory says that 5G cell phone beams are to be responsible for the virus. Since the beginning of the pandemic, strangers have carried out several attacks on such antennas in Switzerland. As a BLICK reader reporter reported, a cell phone mast was on fire again – this time in the middle of Thun BE.
«Intentional act in the foreground»
The Bern canton police confirmed the incident to VIEW. A message to this effect was received shortly before 0.30 a.m. A transmitter mast on Seestrasse in Thun would be on fire, it was said.
“When we arrived on site, the antenna was already in full fire,” says media spokesman Patrick Jean. The Seestrasse therefore had to be closed until around 3:30 a.m. “The deliberate act is in the foreground of the investigation,” the police speaker continued. The fire was therefore set on purpose.
Destroyed by explosion
It was not until the beginning of March that a cell phone antenna from the mobile communications provider Sunrise UPC burned down in the area around Thun. Here, too, the investigators assume arson. “Whether there is a connection with past incidents is now being checked,” says Patrick Jean.
Unknown perpetrators also targeted a Swisscom 5G antenna in Uttigen BE at the end of February. They set fire to the cables that connect the mast to the landline in the ground. The antenna was badly damaged in the arson attack – the property damage amounted to around 30,000 francs.
