Next week the weather in Germany will play “yo-yo”. Temperatures can climb up to 20 degrees during Holy Week. All information about the weather situation in Germany as well as current warnings in the news ticker from FOCUS Online.

“Weather plays yo-yo” – first clouds, then sun in Germany

Saturday, March 27th, 2:48 pm: At the start of the week, people in Germany can expect changeable weather. “An up and down like a rollercoaster ride, you could also say that the weather plays yo-yo during Holy Week,” said meteorologist Magdalena Bertelmann from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Saturday. Especially in the north it can be uncomfortable on Sunday, the sky will be cloudy and it can rain. In the rest of Germany the sky is loosening up and the sun can come out. The maximum values are between 10 degrees in the north and 17 degrees on the Upper Rhine.

Monday also starts cloudy and with light rain in the northeast, in the rest of Germany people can expect a lot of sun. The maximum values are between 18 to 23 degrees, in the north cooler at 14 to 17 degrees. At the beginning of the week, the sun should continue to prevail, said Bertelmann. “The temperatures climb up every day, until Tuesday almost nationwide the 20-degree mark is exceeded.” Then people can expect a lot of sun. It stays dry, the temperatures rise to up to 24 degrees on Tuesday. At the end of the week, the yo-yo should then go down again – with more rain and clouds.

Sunnier in the east – snowfall on the Alps

Monday, March 22nd, 10:47 am: On Monday there is occasionally some rain or drizzle, on the Alps there is persistent light snowfall, as the German Weather Service reports. In the east it gets friendliest with longer sunshine on the border with Poland.

The maximum temperatures reach 3 degrees in the foothills of the Alps and up to 10 degrees with the sun in the east. In the higher mountains, values are only reached just above freezing point. Weak to moderate northwest wind occurs.

In the night of Tuesday there are still partly dense cloud fields, occasionally some precipitation. In the western half and in the extreme southwest, there are sometimes larger loosenings. Fog occurs locally. The lowest values in the north are mostly 5 to 0 degrees, from the middle to the south +2 to -5 degrees, in the higher mountains also below that, at the Alps down to -10 degrees.

Mass crash with 65 cars on the A9 towards Munich

2:07 p.m .: Several dozen cars and trucks crashed into each other on Autobahn 9 in the direction of Munich north of Ingolstadt. According to previous knowledge, 65 vehicles were involved in the pile-up between Denkendorf and Lenting on Friday, tweeted the Upper Bavaria police. Of these, 18 cars and eight trucks were damaged. At the moment, it is assumed that there are three seriously injured and 15 slightly injured people. The reason was probably hail, which suddenly set in. So many drivers lost control.

The motorway towards Munich was completely blocked at Lenting, including the two left lanes towards Nuremberg. In both directions on the busy motorway, traffic jams for kilometers immediately formed in Friday traffic, according to the police. The rescuers were also on duty with several helicopters to care for the injured. The clean-up and salvage work is expected to drag on into the evening.

Cold start in spring: up to -15 degrees and fresh snow

Friday, March 19, 10:48 a.m .: Just in time for the beginning of spring on Saturday, a surge of arctic air reaches Germany. Meteorologist Jan Schenk from “The Weather Channel” reveals how the weather will be on the weekend and gives a first look at the Easter weather:

On Friday and Saturday comes with the cold northeast wind again arctic air to Germany. On the Baltic coast in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the lake effect occurs, i.e. heavy snow showers that come in from the sea. There is also light snowfall from the east to the south. At night the values fall to 0 to -10 degrees, in the Alps also to -15 degrees.

The air from the east is so cold that even the actual cold air from the north is still relatively warm in comparison. From Saturday afternoon the wind turns from east to north in the north and milder cold air reaches the coasts. There, too, there are snow showers or snow showers along the North Sea coast.

In principle, a warm front builds up from the north. But that is somewhat suppressed by the strong high Margarethe. On Saturday there is hardly any rainfall – apart from the showers on the coast. But the air is moving further south and a slightly indifferent temperature picture is formed in Germany. One can best say that there is an occlusion front moving from north to south.

On Sunday then the warmer air is already noticeable and the values rise to 10 or even 11 degrees. It’s not that often that Flensburg or Hamburg report the highest values in Germany, but Sunday is one of those rare days. However, the north wind is also picking up speed. It will be windy and on the coasts there can be individual gusts of up to 80 km / h.

A widely fanned snow front stretches from the low mountain ranges to the Alps and brings snowfall. Up to 10 centimeters of fresh snow is possible in congested areas – and more in the Alps. But be careful, instead of snowfall it could on Sunday morning freezing rain and black ice can also occur. In the north of the low mountain range it is too warm for snow, so it only rains here briefly on Sunday mornings.

The good news is that the very cold air did on Sunday evening withdraws. However, it will remain in cool to cold high pressure weather at the beginning of next week. Germany remains until Wednesday on the cold side of Hoch Margarethe and only then does milder spring air prevail again. Chances are that the snow on Sunday will be the last this winter – until Easter the temperatures will rise again and it will be significantly warmer.

Weather forecast for the weekend: Fresh snow at the beginning of spring

Thursday, March 18, 1:50 p.m .: The calendar spring begins this Saturday – only the weather seems to remain a little bit longer in winter. In the Alps and in the eastern mountainous region, the German Weather Service (DWD) expects some fresh snow again on Friday and Saturday, while it remains rather uncomfortable in lower elevations with rain, sleet and sleet showers. At night there is light to moderate frost almost everywhere.

Mild and spring-like temperatures across the country are not expected until the coming week, according to meteorologists. Only in the far north and northwest could the feeling of spring arise on Sunday with the increasing influence of high pressure – if it weren’t for the fresh and gusty northwest wind. After all, the values could rise locally to up to ten degrees, while the maximum values in the south are three to seven degrees. Snow in the mountains is still possible.

On Monday, however, the high “Margarethe” gains influence and increasingly pushes out the cold air. Although it remains densely cloudy and a little rainy, especially in the center and in the south, the sun should also show itself in the south-east for a longer period of time by Tuesday at the latest. Temperatures in the double-digit range can only be expected in the second half of the week.

In many places it is cloudy with showers and snow showers, only in the north it remains largely dry. The maximum values are 3 to 10 degrees, in the mountains and in the Alps around 0 degrees.
